Vintage-inspired Fridays

Just for fun: a few pictures from my latest treasure-hunting adventure. This antique shop is a local favorite (housed in a 200-year-old one-room school house!). Isn’t it such a cute place??

Love the font used for “The Entertainer” logo.

I came home with this sweet little Brownie Starlet camera, a vintage camera for my sister, and a handful of beautiful black-and-white photographs I’ll be using in upcoming collages (stay tuned for a peek of the photos!).

The “Starlet Camera” font is pretty cute, too, no? Vintage fonts are the best.

Now that the summer is here, I can’t help but daydream about having some new antiquing adventures. One of my favorite ways to spend a sunny Saturday is exploring a new vintage shop or flea market. :)

Here’s a little wish list I’ve compiled to keep in mind while I treasure hunt this summer:

I’d love to find…

Vintage-inspired Fridays: Shoes & Hats

It’s back! It’s been a while since I’ve posted a Vintage-inspired Fridays feature. :-)

This week, I’m showcasing some inspiring looks that feature vintage/vintage-inspired shoes and hats. I’m not much of a hat person—I just can’t pull off the look, but I love the way so many stylish bloggers incorporate vintage hats in their everyday wardrobes.

Short post tonight, but I’ll be back later this weekend. :) I wish you all a very happy Friday. I’m going to spend my evening reading and movie-watching. Perhaps I’ll bake some chocolate chip cookies, too… Such a yummy Friday-night treat!

Vintage-inspired Fridays: Collage

Because craft show preparations are in full swing (the show is next weekend–eek!), I thought this Friday, I’d give you a little peek of one of the collages I’m currently working on. I still have a few finishing touches to add, but it’s almost finished. The main image is a vintage Kodak ad. (I think old ads are quite charming—just another vintage treasure I adore.)

P.S. I recently treated myself to a vintage bag from Get Ready Set Go, and I got it in the mail today. Such an exciting surprise to come home to! I’ll post photos soon. AND I’m excited to announce that I’ll be featuring a Q&A with Rachel, the very talented woman behind Get Ready Set Go, soon. So stay tuned for that! :)

In the meantime, have a lovely Friday evening!

Vintage-inspired Friday (Saturday)

Hello, and Happy Saturday! Because it’s a stay-inside-kind-of-day, I’ve surrounded myself with paints, paper, fabric, markers, etc. I’m creating artwork for the craft fair I’ll be participating in during the month of November (and doing a little art journaling, as well).

I’ve been meaning to share a few vintage treasures I got for my birthday. And I finally got around to photographing them, so I’m excited to share them with you today.

{treasure #1: 1950s etched drinking glasses}

About a month ago, I explored a charming antique shop with my mom (it was housed in a 200-year-old one-room schoolhouse!). While we were there, a set of nine teal drinking glasses caught my eye and stole my heart. I left without them, though, so she surprised me with them on my birthday!

{treasure #2: 1923 autograph book}

She also surprised me with this autograph book dated 1923 (another treasure I was admiring during our antique shop adventure). The writing inside is feathery and romantic—just like old writing typically is. (Penmanship used to be so much more beautiful than it is now, don’t you think? A lost art, I suppose.) My mom got me this beautiful book to use in my collage artwork, but I can’t bear to cut it apart, so I’ve decided to use it to create a mini-album or art journal. Most of the left-hand pages are blank, which leaves room for photos, journaling, etc.

Well, I think I’ll get back to my creating. Have a lovely evening!

Vintage-inspired Fridays* Milkglass

I’m sorry I’m a week late with this post. It has been an incredibly hectic week! Whew! :)

As promised (and better late than never), here’s my milkglass post:

I think milkglass is completely lovely and charming, so I enjoy incorporating it in my decor. For the fall season, I’ve decided to use my milkglass fruit bowl to hold mini pumpkins. (The fruit bowl belonged to my grandmother.)

And this pretty milkglass plate is a $5 thrift store find. Because I normally keep fruit in my fruit bowl (makes sense, eh?), I often keep fresh tomatoes on the plate. But since my fruit bowl currently is filled with mini pumpkins, I’ve decided to keep fresh fruit on the plate.

(For my fall party, I served sliced apples on it and kept a pan of warm caramel on the stove, so guests could fill their bowls with the apple slices and caramel. mmm.)

So there you have it. Some of my favorite fall decorations and vintage treasures. :)

Happy Friday!

Vintage-inspired Fridays (a little late…)

On Saturday, I met up with a friend for a little fall photo shoot. Although the day was gloomy and rainy, we still managed to get some lovely shots. We dressed up and packed our cars with vintage goodies, so we could have some fun styling shots.

Here are a few photos from our day:

It’s been another rainy, dreary day, so I’m happy to be cozy inside. I’m going to do a bit of crafting and reading before bed.

Hope your weekend has been lovely.

Vintage-inspired Fridays* Dressforms

One of things on my current “Treasure Hunting List” is a vintage dressform. I’d place it in a corner of my bedroom, and dress it up in pretty scarves, necklaces, and vintage brooches.

And speaking of fashion and pretty accessories, I’d love to have a closet that looks like this. {Happy sigh.}

It’s Friday! Hope yours is i n s p i r e d. :)

Vintage-inspired Fridays*

Hi, everyone! I’m in the process of adding a few new features to A Place to Dwell, and this is the first one I’m introducing. :-) On Vintage-inspired Fridays, you can expect to see lots of vintage goodies posted (both mine and pretty finds I’ve spotted elsewhere). I’ll share vintage home decor, as well as vintage fashion inspiration. Should be lots of fun and pretty as can be! :-)

The little red sewing case above is a recent find of mine — it was rescued from my grandma’s garage.

Another recent find is a lovely purple typewriter I’ve started calling Olivia. (Might seem silly to name a typewriter, but I figure people name their cars all the time, so why not name a typewriter?). :-)

I’ll be back soon to share more new features.

Happy Friday (and happy treasure hunting!),

K
